This website was built before we got married. And I know some people might be wondering how life was in the years after we got married. After all, most people are happy and excited and looking forward to a rosy future before they get married, but for most it doesn’t last. So how has life been for us after a number of years of marriage?
Well, it’s been six years now, getting on towards seven, and here is something I wrote for Megan’s birthday a few days ago:
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. (Prov 31:10) …
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. (Prov 31:28) …
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. (Prov 31:30)
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. (Prov 31:31)
It was my wife’s birthday yesterday and I wanted to do like this verse says and praise her in the gates.
It’s been a wonderful six years since we got married! We both prayed for a long time that God would lead us to the right person to marry, and he did just that! I keep being amazed at how well we match; she’s everything, and more, that I was looking for.
Megan is so sweet and loving and kind and caring. And she has such a love and tender care for the people that we are ministering to. She is the perfect ministry companion! She is willing to spend and be spent as we travel and seek to bring souls into God’s kingdom. She has endured a lot of trials and afflictions and it has only increased her desire to seek and save the lost.
Before we got married Megan’s Mom asked me what things I was looking for in a wife. I had always had a list of character qualities in my head, but had never written them down before, so I started writings. When I was done I had several pages of things written down (see link in the menu above). And it’s amazing how Megan matches so much of it so well!
We had both been studying the same instruction book – some people call it “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth (B.I.B.L.E.) – so we both were seeking the same goals and character traits. When God led us together we found that he had already prepared us to be amazingly well matched! And things have just gotten better as the years have passed.
I really appreciate Megan’s sincerity and openness. She is a good communicator and if any problems come up between us she is right away ready to talk about them and get them resolved.
“And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” (Gen 2:18)
This is really true! As much as we men like to think we can be self sufficient, most of us really do need a good woman to complete what is lacking in us. I really felt a need for companionship and someone to share life and ministry with. I felt like a part of my life was empty when I was single. And I’m very glad God saw fit to fill up that part of my life with such a wonderful companion! She has helped me grow and develop a lot in areas where I was deficient. Where I am weak she is strong, and where she is weak I can help fill in the same for her.
The thing I appreciate the most about Megan is her spirituality and love for God. She is totally committed to her relationship to God and because of that I know she will stay faithful in her relationship to me too. She tries never to do anything that God disapproves of, and because of that my heart feels safe. God means everything to her, and that means everything to me! It’s God who has made her what she is – he’s the one who has made her to be so wonderful, and I know that as she stays close to him she will just continue becoming more and more of a precious gem – “her price is far above rubies”!
Many times when people get married they start to discover all the bad things they didn’t know about their spouse. But before we got married we were very open and honest about who and what we were with each other. So there really weren’t any surprises after we got married, of bad things coming out that had been hidden before. But there were good surprises! Sometimes I would learn new and beautiful things about Megan’s personality and character that were nice surprises. Over and over again, as I learned new things about her I was amazed at how well God had matched us together. She is such a sweet and gentle and kind person, and I just love her so much!! I’m so thankful that God has led us together and given us such a wonderful life together working for him!
I love you Megan, and I’m thankful that you’ve had another year of life!
